New Early Intervention Announcement on Children with Hearing Loss

The Bureau of Early Intervention Services in Pennsylvania has released a new guidance for infant/toddler and preschool Early Intervention programs effective August 1, 2013.

This guidance asks infant/toddler and preschool Early Intervention programs to encourage parents to communicate the results of their child's early intervention evaluation to the individual or group that referred their child to Early Intervention. It also requests that infant/toddler and preschool Early Intervention programs collect data on whether children received a newborn hearing screening and when they were referred to Early Intervention.

Additionally, a child's IFSP and IEP is to address the child's communication needs and to do so on an on-going basis that takes into account the child's current hearing assessments. Parents of children are to be offered parent support services, including Hands & Voices Guide By Your Side of Pennsylvania and Parent to Parent of Pennsylvania.
